| If you have found this site and are reading this
then you have something in common with over 400 others who spent
their summer working on Big Hawk lake as a councilor or AC at Kawabi.
Undoubtedly this time had a profound impact on your life, and you
formed many friendships during these summers. In recognition of
this, a group of us maintain this site as a tool to share stories,
track somebody down or find out about up coming gatherings that
might occur.
The site has both a public side which shares some of our stories
about Kawabi, and a private staff bulletin board
that has been maintained since the retirement party for Skip and
Nish. On this board you will find a rich history of the camp told
by the staff. Enriched with over 300 pictures and spanning 50 years
the bulletin board is likely to bring back long lost memories. If
you want access to this board apply for a user ID and we will send
you back an email to verify you were a Kawabi staff member. The
board is only accessible to past staff through a private username
and password.
Under the Stories link we have
a simple page of thoughts a few of us put together. Those little
sensory things that quickly take us back to our time at camp. I
am sure if you read a few you will crack a smile, and quickly drift
back to your days on Big Hawk.
You will find under the documents menu some books that were put
together at the closing of camp. There are two song books and a
book of memories written by a number of our alumni. These are free
for your download and enjoyment.
We also maintain a mailing list that has developed with over 300
names of past staff members. If you're not on it and would like
to be added, send us an email, we'll add you. If you're on the email
list and want to be taken off do the same thing. This email list
is used from time to time to send out announcements about upcoming
gatherings, or news we think the overall group would want to hear.
We try to be careful not to over use it.
We have a Links page which is updated
from time to time to other Kawabi groups and sites that might interest
you. Our News section is intended
for general announcements. Please email any links or announcements
and I'll get them on the site.
Hope you enjoy reading, and a few great memories surface. You might
even make contact with somebody you worked with years ago and re-experience
how timeless Kawabi is.
